Neon Snake takes the classic snake game into an open arena. Instead of a small grid, you slither through a large world that scrolls with you, steering smoothly toward your mouse pointer on desktop, with the arrow keys or WASD, or wherever you drag on a phone. Hundreds of colorful pellets are scattered around the map — eat them to grow longer and score, and grab the rare glowing ones for five times the points. Pick a mode on the start screen: Easy drops you into a cozy arena with seven bot snakes, while Medium opens a far larger world with a hundred rivals that spawn already grown, see food from further away and hunt you harder. Every bot has its own name and color; they dodge, chase, and sometimes try to cut across your path. Running your head into any other snake ends your run, but when a rival hits you, its whole body turns into pellets you can hoover up. Hold to boost when you need a burst of speed — it costs a little length. A live leaderboard tracks the standings, and the game keeps your best score on your device. It is a free HTML5 browser game: no download, no sign-up, no ads.

What makes Neon Snake different?

  • Single-player arena with bot rivals

Every other snake is computer-controlled and runs on your device, so there is no lobby, no waiting for a match and no other people — just you against the bots.

  • Mouse, keyboard and touch controls

Steer with the mouse pointer, the arrow keys or WASD on desktop, or drag anywhere on the arena on a phone or tablet.

  • Easy and Medium modes

Easy is a compact arena with seven rivals; Medium is a much larger world with a hundred tougher bots and its own best score.

  • Boost mechanic

Hold to speed up and cut a rival off or escape a trap. Boosting slowly sheds length, so it is a real trade rather than a free win.

  • No downloads, signup, ads or installs

It is an HTML5 game that loads in the browser tab you already have open. Your best scores stay in your own browser.

Skills Neon Snake trains

Neon Snake is built so that reaction speed is the thing that gives out first, which is what turns a round into practice rather than just play.

  • Reaction speed

Reaction speed is the gap between seeing something change and acting on it correctly, measured in the fractions of a second between a signal and your response.

  • Focus & attention

Focus is the ability to keep your attention on one task and ignore everything else for a stretch of minutes, and to notice the moment your attention slips away.

  • Spatial reasoning

Spatial reasoning is the ability to picture shapes, paths and space in your head — to see where a piece will fit or where a path leads before you move anything.

How to play Neon Snake

To play Neon Snake, steer your snake toward your mouse pointer (or use the arrow keys, or drag on a phone), eat pellets to grow, and avoid touching any other snake's body while trying to make rivals crash into yours.

  1. 1Steer. Move your mouse to point the snake where you want to go, or hold the arrow keys or WASD. On a phone, touch and drag anywhere on the arena.
  2. 2Eat & grow. Slide your head over pellets to grow longer and score. Glowing pellets are rare and worth five times more.
  3. 3Avoid bodies. Your run ends the moment your head touches another snake's body, so give long snakes plenty of room.
  4. 4Cut them off. Rivals die when their head hits your body. Their body scatters into pellets — swoop in and collect them.
  5. 5Boost wisely. Hold click, Shift, or the Boost button for a burst of speed. It costs a little length, so use it to escape or to cut a rival off.
  6. 6Climb the board. The leaderboard in the corner ranks every snake by score. Reach #1 and stay there.

What are the controls for Neon Snake?

Frequently asked questions

Neon Snake is free to play in your browser with no download, no sign-up, and no ads — these are the questions players ask most.

How do you play Neon Snake?

Steer with your mouse or the arrow keys on desktop, or by dragging anywhere on the arena on a phone. Eat pellets to grow and score, and avoid touching any other snake's body. When a rival snake crashes into you, it turns into pellets you can collect, and the leaderboard in the corner shows where you rank.

Is Neon Snake multiplayer?

No. Neon Snake is a single-player snake game: the other snakes are computer-controlled bots that run on your own device, so there is no server, no login, and no waiting for a match. They seek food, dodge, hunt, and respawn a few seconds after they die.

Is Neon Snake free to play?

Yes. Neon Snake runs entirely in your browser and is completely free — no download, install, account, or ads. Your best score for each mode is saved in your own browser.

Can I play Neon Snake on mobile?

Yes. Neon Snake is built for touch: drag anywhere to steer, hold the large Boost button to speed up, and use the pause button in the corner. It works in the browser on phones, tablets, and desktop computers with nothing to install.

What controls does Neon Snake support?

Three input methods. Mouse: move the pointer to steer and hold the left button to boost. Keyboard: arrow keys or WASD to steer, Shift or Space to boost, Esc or P to pause. Touch: drag anywhere on the arena to steer and hold the on-screen Boost button.

What is the difference between Easy and Medium mode?

Easy is a compact arena with seven bot snakes and gentle rivals. Medium is a much larger world with one hundred bots that start bigger, move a little faster, see food from further away and compete harder for the top of the leaderboard. Each mode keeps its own best score on your device. A Hard mode is coming soon.

How does boosting work in Neon Snake?

Hold the left mouse button, Shift, or Space on desktop, or hold the Boost button on a phone. Your snake speeds up and slowly sheds length as pellets behind it, so a boost is a trade: speed now for size later.
